We started off with a mile+ warmup run, then a walk thru of the obstacle course. The large tire flip at the beginning proved to be a good test and made the legs feel like jello when going over the balance beams. The rope wall, monkey bars, over/under and the wood wall were also very good too.
The obstacles look easier than what they really are. On the second pass, we timed ourselves and were aiming for a 8 minute lap. We smashed that goal with a time of 5min 30sec. The heart and lungs were working at full capacity. By the way, Simmons is a speedy spider monkey!
One section of today's run reminded me why we do Tough Mudders. We passed a homeless camp along the river and it really got me thinking. After the course we took a nice cool down run back to the cars. I really like this location and what the park has to offer.
Why do we run Tough Mudders?
Columbus, Ohio has a very large population of homeless veterans. Many of them are from the Vietnam era. These brave men and women did not have a support system like the Wounded Warrior Project. You are the reason why things are better for our heroes. Remember that!
Now Mudder Up!!!
