Great Morning at Audubon Metro

What a great day for a little run and obstacle fun.

Thanks to Bob, Kevin, Nate, Tim, Leslie and her son Elijah for joining in on the fun.    Stepping out of the car, into the very brisk morning breeze was a nice wakeup.  We took a nice mile or so warmup and then onto the obstacle course where we were able to make 4 passes through.  It is a perfect spot for Mudder training.  The best part was hearing Nate smack into the wall on the second or third pass.  THUD!!!!  I wish I could have seen him fall backwards on his butt on the other side.  Sorry Nate. :)

So we have a couple weekends left for training until we take a week off before the Mudder.  The last week will consist of lots of stretching and a couple short shakeout runs.  We are going to have a great day on May 17th in Mansfield, OH!! Channel your fighting spirit....yell HOOYAH so the whole world can hear it!

It's almost time: (ZZZZZzzzAAAAP!!!!)

Audubon Mudder Training

Today was a lot of fun downtown. The Audubon Metro Park is a great site for Mudder training.

We started off with a mile+ warmup run, then a walk thru of the obstacle course.  The large tire flip at the beginning proved to be a good test and made the legs feel like jello when going over the balance beams.  The rope wall, monkey bars, over/under and the wood wall were also very good too.

The obstacles look easier than what they really are.  On the second pass, we timed ourselves and were aiming for a 8 minute lap.  We smashed that goal with a time of 5min 30sec.  The heart and lungs were working at full capacity.  By the way, Simmons is a speedy spider monkey!

After the course we took a nice cool down run back to the cars.  I really like this location and what the park has to offer.

Why do we run Tough Mudders?

One section of today's run reminded me why we do Tough Mudders.  We passed a homeless camp along the river and it really got me thinking.

Columbus, Ohio has a very large population of homeless veterans.  Many of them are from the Vietnam era.  These brave men and women did not have a support system like the Wounded Warrior Project.  You are the reason why things are better for our heroes.  Remember that!

Now Mudder Up!!!

Highbanks on Sunday

What a beautiful day for a run through Highbanks.  Thanks Bob and Nate for joining in.  The ground was muddy and the temperature was just right.  A perfect day to get out the preMudder jitters.  Next time we need to bring a taser to amp it up a bit!

Bob used his superhuman senses to spot approx 4 feathered friends who cheered us on with their wobble gobble gobble.

We have one month of training left and Bob & Nate think the obstacle course downtown sounds like a good idea.  Email your ideas and let's get together at least once beforehand.

Time to get at it!

Today is the first day of my spring break and I figured it was a great day to start hitting the Mudder training hard!
Team Good Clean Fun, we have 55 days until we embark on a very fun day in the mud!  That leaves the team 48 days to get ready.  The last week should be rest and stretching.
I went for a nice 6+ mile run through the shires of Dublin.  The best part of the run was the Bridge street corridor and the nice incline heading east on 161.
The steps are great and I also noticed some mud down there.  I was tempted to roll around in it like a pig.  I also thought it looked like a good place to take a chilly swim across the river.....but I held back the temptations. Maybe next time.

When I returned home, I took a nice .5 mile walk with a 60lb. sandbag on my shoulders. Legs felt pretty good.

NOW GET AT IT TEAM!  You will be glad you did!

HOOYAH....GCF BABY!

Hoover Reservoir in Westervillio

Had a nice run this morning at Hoover Reservoir in Westerville.  Thanks to Bob and Kevin for braving the elements.  It was actually a wonderful morning weather wise.  The ankles got a little cold in the deeper snow, but nothing like the arctic enema.  Overall, the majority of the trails were nice.  The steps by the dam were damn slippery, so we skipped that section on the way back.  We took the service road across instead.
The flurries and the balmy 20F temp made it an excellent morning for a little training.

Hopefully we can get Good Clean Fun out for some team training and motivation soon.

HOOOYAH!

February

I woke up at midnight and registered for the Columbus Marathon.  I am very excited about the race this year!
http://www.columbusmarathon.com

Honor....the hard work my daughter is doing, by trying to emulate her fighting spirit and determination.
Courage....to take on obstacles that challenge my mental strength. Avoid what is easy and do what is difficult.
Commitment....to stay the course and set new goals. To continue to challenge myself.

As a member of team Good Clean Fun, I will uphold the Core Values above by pushing myself harder and harder each day.  The freezing roads kept me indoors today...but the team will soon be hitting the trails and wading in some cold water!

Rally yourself and rally your friends to join us for the Tough Mudder in Mansfield.  We owe it to our Veterans and to everyone who works harder than ourselves!  If your friends think they aren't ready....tell them I have a 7 year old who can tell them differently.  :)

Today's activity:
3.2 miles on treadmill.  Hit the last mile at a steady 9mph. 100 slow push-ups...sets 30, 30 and pushed out 40 during last set.   Dropped at each mile marker.  Feels awesome!

Tomorrow I will reach the next bar!

Now go get it! HOOOYAH!

Get Inspired

"The true miracle is not walking on water or walking in air, but simply walking on this earth."

I'm getting up at 4 AM to put some miles on the treadmill.  Watch this video and you will too.  It was my daughter Emma who inspired me to take control of my health. She is the one who made me realize that I can run a Marathon.  She has worked so hard and gone from using a walker, to using crutches, to taking independent steps.  It was her comment this morning that made me hop on the treadmill this morning.  She said, "I want to practice walking on my own. I want to take 4 steps."  Tonight she took 3!  She set a goal, went for it, and showing she will reach it!

You have set a goal as well.  Some of you weren't sure about taking part in Tough Mudder.  I say thank you for joining the FUN.  You will feel GOOD and not so CLEAN when you cross the finish line 2.  The famous David Chambers once said, "We got this!"---

We need to get out for a group run soon!  Any mileage is good mileage.  After tonight, I feel like running 100 :)!!!
